Why Be Moral?

Some of my research into the validity of the Bible and it's claims has lead me to some very interesting viewpoints. This one I share with you because it stirred me up. I know it will do the same for you. Here is the link and a short quote. Check it out for yourself and ask yourself how you might respond after reading it. Have fun.

http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/richard_carrier/moreland.html

"It should now be clear that the Christian theism that Moreland defends provides no better reasons to be moral than secular humanism, and on many of the very same points as well as others Moreland does not examine, humanism may actually provide more compelling arguments."

See, I told you.

Well, what about making peace with God to avoid his wrath? Richard Carrier (the author of that quote) has no reverence for God, no fear of him; he hates God and blames God for the 'bad' world. Which is interesting if he's an atheist. Intellectual arguments for morality are not easy battles to fight. Is humanity worth living 'good' for? I dont' know... Isn't morality and it's logic a result of the influence of the spirit within us and the Spirit that holds back the full extent of evil? (not to mention the Spirit of Jesus that preserves society because of the 'salt' of believers.) Jesus died for humanity, which shows the value God places on his creation; which this argument does not support. But the reasons for Jesus' death (and ressurection) would fall on a closed mind - if Carrier even attempts to grapple with Jesus (I should check that out). Am I making any sense? Interesting quote.

I don't even like the Moreland's reasons for being moral... is that really what he says?
